The method
It cuts off the blood supply, not the skin
A skin tag hangs off a narrow stalk, and everything keeping it alive runs through that stalk. The applicator sets a small rubber band around the base and closes it. Starved of circulation the tissue dries out and drops off on its own, usually somewhere between three and fourteen days. This is called ligation and it is the same principle behind the thread a doctor ties.
Harvard Health describes the method directly: “some commercial kits contain ligation bands that can be placed around the base of skin tags, thereby cutting off their circulation and causing them to fall off.” Skin tag removal: optional but effective. That is a description of the mechanism, not an endorsement of this kit, and the same article says evidence for home removal is largely anecdotal.

Load a band and place it

Wait it out

Does it hurt?
Most people describe pressure and then a tightness that fades over the first hour, closer to a pinch than a pain. Nothing is cut, frozen or burned. A tag on thin skin, an eyelid for instance, is the one place people report it being genuinely uncomfortable.
How long until it falls off?
The manufacturer says most tags come away within 3 to 14 days. It darkens first, then dries, then detaches on its own, usually with the band still attached to it. Do not help it along.
It is not working on my tag. What went wrong?
Almost always one of two things. Either the band landed part way up the tag instead of at the base, in which case it will take the top off and leave a stub; or the tag is smaller than about 2mm and there is not enough stalk for a band to grip. Buyers of this kit say both. For the first, apply a second band at the base and let it finish. For the second, this is the wrong tool and a freeze off pen is the right one.

Will it scar?
Ligation is used precisely because the skin is never opened. Can I use it on a mole or a wart?

The bands are rubber. Does that matter?
